The Art of Timeless Elegance: How Italian Craftsmanship Shapes Modern Luxury

In a world dominated by fast fashion and fleeting trends, true luxury remains steadfast: authentic, enduring, and profoundly personal. At the heart of this timeless elegance lies Italian craftsmanship-a legacy of artistry that has defined standards of quality for centuries. But what makes Italian craftsmanship so exceptional, and why does it continue to captivate the modern world?

A Heritage of Excellence

Italy’s reputation for excellence is no coincidence. It’s the result of generations of artisans honing their craft, passing down traditions imbued with passion and precision. Whether it’s the hand-stitched leather of a Tuscan bag, the intricate inlays of Murano glass, or the bold cuts of Milanese tailoring, each piece tells a story of dedication and authenticity.

From Father to Son – This Is How the Experience Is Passed Down

A Commitment to Quality, Not Quantity

Italian artisans are uncompromising in their pursuit of perfection. In an era where mass production often prioritizes speed over substance, Italy remains committed to creating fewer pieces of unparalleled quality. This commitment is not just about preserving tradition; it’s about creating items that withstand the test of time-both in durability and in style.

The Marriage of Tradition and Innovation

While Italian craftsmanship is steeped in history, it isn’t stagnant. Modern artisans embrace innovation, infusing contemporary design sensibilities with classical techniques. This synergy creates products that are both timeless and fresh, bridging the gap between the past and the present.

Beyond Products: A Way of Life

Italian craftsmanship is more than just a process; it’s a philosophy. It’s about valuing the beauty in detail, appreciating the patience it takes to perfect a skill, and cherishing the connection between the maker and the masterpiece. It’s an ethos that invites us all to slow down, savor life, and invest in things that truly matter.

Why It Matters Today

As consumers, our choices reflect our values. By supporting artisans and their craft, we not only acquire something extraordinary but also contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage. In a fast-paced world, Italian craftsmanship reminds us that true luxury is not about excess but about enduring beauty, integrity, and meaning.

Attention to Details and Personal Relationships Meets at Massimo Roma

At Massimo Roma, we celebrate this art of timeless elegance, offering curated pieces that embody the spirit of Italian craftsmanship. Because luxury, at its core, is about more than what we own-it’s about how it makes us feel.

6 things to check in a suit

6 things to check in a suit
Buongiorno, One of the biggest mistakes gentlemen make when they buy a new Ready-To-Wear suit is to buy one that is “comfortable” and loose like a tracksuit, so it doesn’t feel like wearing a suit. And while a good suit should be comfortable and breathable, allowing you to fully move your arms and legs… They’ll make you look like a potato bag—which is NOT good. So, here’s what you should check when you’re wearing a Ready-To-Wear suit: Jacket Closure If your jacket sags forward, that means it’s too big. On the other hand, if you see the jacket pulls apart at the bottom (causing a wide gap)…it means your jacket is too tight. The jacket should be comfortable, and the two sides of the jacket will meet flawlessly. Color Do you want to wear the suit for a special event (e.g., wedding) or for business? For summer, winter, or all seasons? These are important questions you have to ask yourself BEFORE you buy a suit. For example, if you want a suit for summer, you should go with light colors (e.g., light grey, light blue…). Whereas for winter, dark colors are a better option. If you want to play it safe (and STILL look very stylish), I recommend you get a navy blue or dark grey suit—both are versatile, and you can wear them on almost ANY type of occasion. Shoulder Seam This is a small detail that makes a BIG difference. Always check the shoulder seam ends just before your shoulder does. If it’s too long, it doesn’t look good on you, and it’s probably too big for you. On the other hand, if it’s aligned with your shoulder, that means it fits well with your body. Suit Length If you want to know the length of your jacket and make sure it’s RIGHT… Just stand up and keep your hands down at your sides. The jacket should end in the middle of your hands, somewhere between the beginning and end of your thumb. If it goes beyond the fingers of your hand, then it’s too long. If it stops at your wrist, then it’s too short. Sleeve Length That’s another common mistake gentlemen make when they buy a suit. Usually, the sleeves of the jacket are either too long…or too short. The sleeves should sit at the top of your wrists, so they can allow a quarter to a half-inch of your shirt cuff to show. Pants Length Pants bottoms should not bunch up too much. This is probably the BIGGEST mistake gentlemen make. They don’t pay attention to the length of the pants. Make sure the pants leave little or no break, meaning they stop right where the shoe begins. These are 6 things you should check every time you’re going to wear (or purchase) a Ready-To-Wear suit. And this is why, when you buy a Ready-To-Wear suit at Massimo Roma, we always offer our customers some alterations… So they can get a Ready-To-Wear suit that makes them look stylish and stand out from the crowd. Even better… If you want to show everyone your superb taste and dress like a stylish Italian… Then I always recommend my customers go with a bespoke suit. This is the type of suit that will fit your body to PERFECTION. Customizable to the single detail, it will fulfill your needs and personal style—not to mention it’ll take your style game to the next level. The Most Underrated Garment In Your Wardrobe
The Vest   Buongiorno! Today, I’d like to talk about the most underrated garment a gentleman could wear. A garment that is a great symbol of functionality and sophistication. You can easily dress it up or dress it down... And it’s so versatile that you can wear it throughout the year. What am I talking about? The Vest It’s a timeless piece of clothing that adds a sophisticated touch to your personal style... And conveys the clear message that you are a stylish gentleman who cares about the details. Even better... it’ll set you apart from everyone else. Now, the question is... How can you wear it? Here’s what I recommend: Casual & Semi-Formal Events: You can wear a vest made from tweed or corduroy. Formal Events: Wear a vest that matches the color and fabric of the suit. Massimo’s tip: You can pair it with a good pair of dark denim jeans or a pair of high-quality chinos. Now... Here are 5 things you should know when you wear a vest: It should have at least one button more than the jacket you’re wearing. Never wear it under a double-breasted suit. Keep the last button unbuttoned (optional). The color of the vest should be darker than the color of your shirt (I recommend starting with a white or light blue shirt). If you wear a vest with a tie, do not use a tie clip. If you want to upgrade your wardrobe and get a high-quality vest, you can schedule a free consultation here with me. A Journey Through Sartorial Jacket Constructions

A Journey Through Sartorial Jacket Constructions
What constructions can we find in jackets?  Buongiorno, the world of suit jackets can be intricate, with various construction methods influencing the overall quality, fit, and price of the garment. Among the most common techniques are fused, half-canvas, and full-canvas constructions. Understanding the differences between these options will help you make an informed decision when purchasing your perfect suit or jacket. Fusing construction Fused jackets are the most affordable option on the market. In this construction, manufacturers heat-bond a layer of adhesive material to the fabric, creating the desired structure and shape. This streamlined process allows manufacturers to produce fused jackets at a lower cost, making them popular in ready-to-wear and budget-friendly suit collections. Durability is a critical factor to consider when choosing a suit jacket, and fused jackets may fall short in this regard. The adhesive used in fused jackets can weaken over time, resulting in a loss of shape and stiffness. In addition, the synthetic adhesive layer in fused jackets can limit airflow, leading to discomfort, especially in warmer climates. Problem of a fused jacket ““ The layer of adhesive inside the jacket loses its effectiveness after a few cleaning cycles Half-canvas construction Half-canvas jackets strike a balance between affordability and quality. The canvas is integrated into the upper half of the jacket, running from the shoulders to around the waist. Manufacturers typically fuse the lower half, creating a more cost-effective solution that still retains some of the advantages of canvas construction. While half-canvas jackets offer affordability and convenience, those seeking the highest level of craftsmanship and sartorial elegance often opt for the meticulous artistry found in full-canvas jackets. Half-canvas jacket ““ natural horsehair and cotton patch is applied only on the upper part of the garment Full-canvas construction Full-canvas jackets are the epitome of sartorial excellence and craftsmanship, favored by discerning aficionados of high-quality menswear. In this traditional tailoring method, skilled artisans hand-sew a canvas layer into the fabric, encompassing the entire front section of the jacket from the shoulders to the hem. Full-canvas jackets offer unmatched fit and comfort as they gradually conform to the wearerness body, providing a fit that improves over time. The canvas plays a vital role in the jacket's durability by ensuring it maintains its shape and structure, resulting in exceptional longevity that can withstand years of use. Additionally, the use of natural materials in full-canvas jackets allows air to circulate freely, promoting breathability and optimal comfort, even during extended periods of wear. These combined attributes make full-canvas jackets the symbol of quality and luxury in the world of menswear. Full-canvas construction ““ Artisans apply natural horsehair and cotton patch to the entire front panel of the jacket In conclusion, full-canvas jackets stand out as the superior choice for individuals seeking the highest level of fit, durability and comfort in their suit jackets. The fit and exceptional resilience provided by the canvas layer ensure that these jackets maintain their shape and structure over time. This creates a timeless investment, representing the epitome of durability and style. At Massimo Roma, we focus on sartorial excellence and craftsmanship. For this reason we exclusively offer full canvas construction for both ready-to-wear and custom-made options. Our commitment to providing our customers with the finest quality garments reflects our dedication to elevating their style and ensuring they experience the essence of luxury in their attire. Cary Grant’s Timeless Wisdom on Style
Buongiorno a tutti! In a revealing 1973 interview with GQ, Cary Grant, the epitome of Hollywood elegance, shared his timeless insights on what it means to dress with elegance. Let's go!   Ageless Elegance   Grant observed that elegance transcends age. It's a quality easily recognized but hard to articulate. He noted the trend among European youths donning satin trousers and embroidered jackets, exuding elegance effortlessly. Yet, he humorously admitted that adopting such a style himself would be far from flattering. The Essence of Elegance For Grant, elegance is more than clothing; it's an aura. It's not for the individual to declare their elegance but for it to be perceived by others. Confidence Over Vanity   He believed true elegance should never be a loud proclamation of vanity. Instead, it's the quiet confidence that speaks volumes. That's the essence of true elegance. Fashion vs Elegance Grant warned against being engulfed by fashion trends. Elegance isn't about impressing others or wearing the latest styles. It's about the self-assurance that comes from within and doesn't need the validation of high fashion. These insights from Cary Grant offer a glimpse into the mindset of a man who was not just a fashion icon but a symbol of enduring style and grace. But remember, you don't have to be Cary Grant to look good and feel confident! Come and visit us and we'll help you put together a wardrobe that's appropriate for your style and needs, that will give you the confidence you need to look elegant.   Arrivederci a presto, Massimo Mattetti: Owner of Massimo Roma
The Ultimate Guide to Suit Care

The Ultimate Guide to Suit Care
Suit care can be broken down into two major parts: storage and cleaning. Part I: Storage Hang Your Jackets Properly: Always hang jackets on a sturdy, appropriately shaped hanger to maintain their shape and allow for ventilation. This prevents wrinkles and stress on the fabric. For trousers, use a trouser bar, hanger, or clamp to avoid creases. Choose the Right Hanger: Ensure hangers are the correct size and shape for your jackets. Wooden hangers, especially those made from cedar or beechwood, are often recommended for their durability and potential moisture absorption. Use Breathable Garment Bags: Store suits in breathable garment bags to protect them from moths, humidity, and dust. Avoid clear PVC plastic bags as they are not breathable and can transfer color to the fabric over time.   Part II: Cleaning Brush Regularly: Brush your suits after each wear to remove dust, dirt, and debris. Use softer brushes for delicate fabrics to avoid damage. Steamer: Dry-cleaning can be harsh on suit fabric and it is not advised, unless there’s a stain or there are serious marks of wear on it. Instead, opt for a steamer. The vapor not only restores the fabric fibers, but also kills the bacteria that retain the bad odors. How to wash Trousers: To decide whether your pants should be washed or dry cleaned, consult the care label. Generally, woolens should be dry-cleaned. Many cottons can be washed, although sometimes manufacturers suggest dry cleaning to avoid problems with color or size Cleaning Frequency for your Suit After Every Wear: Brush the jacket and trousers, and spot clean if necessary. Every 10-20 Wears: Sponge and steam the suit. After 20 Wears: Dry clean if desired. By following these guidelines, you can ensure your suits remain in excellent condition and last for years to come. Be More Confident In 3 Steps
What makes you What makes you confident? Buongiorno a tutti! Today I want to share 3 ways to dress with confidence and stand out. Because looking is not only about perfect fit or nice garments, but also about your confidence. How do you show your confidence while wearing a suit or as the matter of facts just about any garment? Let's dive in!   1. Focus on fit and quality     Fact is, if you wear a high-quality suit that fits you well, you're going to feel more confident when you walk into a room. Why? Because a custom-tailored garment will highlight the best parts of your body and show everyone you care about the details. Massimo's tip: When you are in doubt, opt for neutral colors such as dark grey or navy blue.   2. Invest in accessories   Cufflinks are a detail that is most often noted in a well-dressed gentleman. Pocket squares. Cufflinks. Ties. This is one of the easiest ways to stand out from the crowd, show your sophisticated taste, and command respect when you're surrounded by other people. While ties are not very much in demand as they used to be, a pair of nice cufflinks and matching pocket square (aka handkerchief) will go a long way with your overall look. And when people compliment you, your confidence grows.   3. Think like a REAL gentleman   A gentleman is always well mannered and thoughtful. Truth is, you can wear the best suit in the world, the best fitting shirts, wear the most expensive shoes, but if you really want to make an impact, you need to think (and act) like a gentleman. Traits such as kindness, open-mindedness, courage, respect, and being well-mannered are HIGHLY appreciated, especially in today's society. If you'd like to wear a perfect outfit, book an appointment with Massimo Roma and we will help you build the appropriate wardrobe for you. Are Expensive Suits Worth It?
Buongiorno, When you walk into a shopping mall, it’s quite easy to see many ready-to-wear suits or sport jackets that look good at a very affordable price. So many times, you probably wondered something like: “Why should I get a $2000 suit when I can get a suit for $500?” Are quality garments worth it? Short answer: Because a $2000 suit is MUCH better than a $300 suit. Medium answer: It depends if you consider a suit a long-term investment or not. Let me explain… Cheap suits look cheap and can be often spotted a mile away. Unlike cheap suits, a $2000 suit is meant to last many years. Often 10+ years. On top of that, when you walk into a room with an expensive suit, everyone can feel you’re wearing an expensive garment. This also means you’ll get more compliments, command more respect, and make an impact. Now… If you are on a budget and want to buy a suit that you’ll use rarely, only for informal occasions, then it might make sense to buy a $300 suit (always better than wearing a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie…!) However, if you want to have a great garment that will make you feel confident when you attend ANY event (and convey your unique style) … Then I’d highly recommend you invest in a high-quality suit or jacket. A perfect fit combined with great craftsmanship—from our Zegna fabrics collection. Lastly, before you buy a garment, always make sure: It fits well (FIT is everything) The fabric is good for the season (e.g., linen for summer) The quality of tailoring And here’s my personal opinion: It’s better to buy a high-quality garment that you love, rather than five cheap garments that you don’t. If you’re interested in getting a high-quality suit that lasts for YEARS and makes you feel more confident and respected by your peers… Just click here and schedule a FREE appointment with Massimo today. A Clinical Eye For Perfection
A clinical eye for perfection Style tips from a former Navy Officer Buongiorno,   If you're familiar with me, you might be aware that before I founded Massimo Roma, I dedicated over 17 years to serving in the Italian Navy. It was there that I honed my obsession for perfection, which I now apply to every custom-tailored garment I create. Today, I'd like to present five style inspirations that emerged from my tenure as an officer in the Italian Navy: 1. Attention-to-details:   David Beckham, his attention to details is always right on point. The devil is in the details when it comes to military style. Make sure to pay close attention to small details and accessories such as, handkerchiefs, button colors, pocket designs, etc. These are the details that make or break a look.   2. Invest in timeless, high-quality clothes:   Dark Gray suit goes with everything Military style is all about keeping it simple and avoiding anything that is out of the ordinary. Stick to the basics and fit it to perfection. Custom Tailored white shirt with Dark Grey (or Blue Navy) Suit.  Black Oxford Shoes are the PERFECT accompaniment to always look classy and command respect wherever you go. Dark Brown will also work for most outfits.   3. Accessorize strategically:   A beautiful watch always makes a stylish impression Think about what will best complement the outfit you're wearing and add a touch of your own personality. Choose quality items that can be mixed and matched easily and that will enhance the overall look. A few key accessories like a watch, cufflinks, hat, scarf, or even a pocket square can take your outfit to the next level.   4. Wear High Quality Shoes:   Brown wingtips work with almost any outfit A good shoe can make or break an outfit. Match the color of your shoes to the color of your belt for a pulled-together look. Two of the most stylish and versatile shoes are (1) Black or Dark Brown Wingtips and (2) Monk Straps. These types of shoes make it easy to dress your outfit up or down.   5. Neutral Colors Are KING:   Neutral colors are always a solid choice   White, Gray, Black and Beige. These are timeless neutral colors that are versatile and easy to combine with other colors. And the best part? They never go out of style. Hope this article inspired you to seek your own perfection and why not... to look more stylish and confident! Arrivederci a presto! Five Timeless accessories every gentleman should own
Add that extra touch to your outfit Accessories are the secret ingredients that can bring your style game to the next level and show your unique personality. This is one of my favorite quotes. Why? Well, think of it this way: If you are going to meet some colleagues (or friends) and everyone is wearing a classic business suit or a very similar outfit. How can you stand out from the crowd? The answer is simple: Accessories. Pocket squares, tie clips, bracelets, belts, hats...the list is long. However, there are 5 must-have accessories that you should definitely own and will NEVER go out of style. 1. Watch:  It's probably the most important accessory you should own. And no, I'm not talking about smartwatches. I'm talking about classic wristwatches (such as dress watches, diver watches, or Chrono watches). Fact is that a timeless watch makes you look more elegant and adds a personal touch to your outfit. And because a classic watch is way more stylish than a modern smartwatch, you could get a lot more compliments and make you stand out. 2. Necktie A high-quality necktie is not only to decorate your neck and shirt. It's designed to make your personality look more charismatic and unique (nowadays many people avoid wearing it because they prefer casual outfits). It also commands respect and adds color to your outfit. If you want to get a high-quality necktie to elevate your style, I highly recommend you schedule a free consultation with me here. 3. Pocket Square:  A pocket square is used to add a hint of color and sophistication to a formal outfit. It's an item that draws attention to yourself and lets you stand out from the crowd. Last but not least, it's an effective conversation starter, especially if you are wearing a pocket square with bold colors or a particular pattern. 4. Cufflinks are some of the most elegant accessories you could own. Their main function is to hold the sleeves together on shirts with French cuffs. They are normally worn on formal occasions, and they add a touch of style to an outfit. When you wear cufflinks, you can showcase your individual taste as well as your attention to detail. 5. Sunglasses offer protection from the sun and help you look more stylish and mysterious. When it comes to buying sunglasses, you need to take into account your face size and shape, so that you can match your face shape with the right style of sunglasses. Remember: You only get one chance to make a great first impression! Un Saluto, Massimo Mattetti - Owner of Massimo Roma P.S. Any questions? Click here or send us an email at:  massimo@massimoroma.com
3 rules you should know, to look more stylish

3 rules you should know, to look more stylish
Fabric, Fit and Color Have you ever wondered why some gentlemen look better than others, NO matter what they wear? They look better with a suit, they look better wearing a simple polo and a pair of chinos. They even look stylish with a swimming suit! And no, it's not because they have a slimmer and athletic body (although, it might make a big difference) or because they're wearing expensive clothes. So, what is the secret? To me, it is all about three things: fit, fabric, and color.  1. Fit It doesn't matter how much you spend on a garment. If it doesn't fit you properly, you'll never look stylish. Truth is: If a garment fits properly, you can look like a million bucks and get a lot of compliments. Make sure the sleeves are not too long or too short. Check the length of the trousers (this is a very common mistake) And NEVER buy a loose dress shirt. It always looks baggy and shapeless. In other words, fit is KING. Massimo's Tip: Make sure you have AT LEAST one crisp custom-tailored white shirt and one light blue to use for special occasions. You can schedule a FREE appointment with us here and add 2 perfectly fitting custom shirts to your wardrobe 2. Fabric Fabric is the most important component of a garment. You should choose a high-quality fabric that is breathable, durable, and comfortable to wear. Wool is known for being a great fabric for winter, but very few people know that lightweight wool (known as Fresco Lana) is a great fabric for summer as well. Linen is perfect for summer. It keeps you fresh and cool throughout the day. And cotton is a good breathable fabric that can be used for all seasons. Don't know what fabric to choose? You can contact us here for a free consultation and we'll guide you through the process and help you choose the best fabric for the season. 3. Color Color is very important because it flatters the individual and adds a personal touch to the outfit so that you can stand out from the crowd. Dark grey and navy blue are the timeless (and safest) colors for a suit. You can never go wrong with them. Light grey, light blue, camel, and white are perfect for spring and summer. Once you are aware of these three crucial key elements of style, you will be able to dress better and honestly express yourself with confidence and style!
